Lately, there has been a lot of buzz around the nonsurgical nose job known as the liquid rhinoplasty. A liquid rhinoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting fillers into the nose to temporarily reshape the nose without surgery. Rather than going under the knife with 6 months to a year of recovery time, the liquid rhino uses injectable fillers to immediately camouflage uneven areas on the nose. The results are subtle but can make a real difference to the patient seeking to magically correct a concern.
During the procedure, a board certified medical professional will inject hyaluronic acid fillers into a patients nose to reshape it. Minor tweaks are possible with nonsurgical rhinoplasty such as filling in a depressed area in the nose, lifting the angle of the tip and/or smoothing the appearance of a bump. The procedure takes about 20 to 30 minutes – slightly longer if numbing cream is applied beforehand.
The process is fairly painless though some patients feel a little discomfort for a short period. Bruising is a possibility and swelling is likely. Unlike a surgical rhinoplasty, the results from this nonsurgical procedure are temporary and last only as long as the fillers do, which can be anywhere from 12 to 18 months.
A nonsurgical rhinoplasty doesn’t make the nose smaller. In fact, the fillers add volume to your nose, making it larger. It can, however, make a bump less visible or refine the shape of the nose. That’s why adding filler to the nose can actually make the nose appear smaller by reshaping the nose. A good candidate for this procedure is someone whose nose “is on the smaller size who wishes to make the nose straighter or modify the tip. One of the benefits of nonsurgical rhinoplasty is that if someone were to hate it, it can be removed by an injection of an enzyme that dissolves the filler.
The enzyme used to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers is called hyaluronidase; if the fillers used were not hyaluronic acid-based, this enzyme will not break them down.
Generally speaking, the procedure should be considered a short-term solution that works best when used for fairly minor adjustments.(Not everyone is a candidate. Please contact us for an evaluation to see whether this is the right solution for you)
